The Ruby Pickens Tartt Public Library offers free Notary Public services as a convenience to the community. A notary serves as an impartial witness to the signing of documents.
The notary is available by appointment or walk-in, as staff time permits. Please call ahead to confirm availability or to schedule an appointment.
A current, government-issued photo ID for each signer (expired IDs cannot be accepted)
Your completed document (do not sign it in advance)
Any required witnesses
The library cannot provide witnesses
Witnesses must be 18+, personally known to the signer, and have a valid photo ID
The library is unable to notarize certain documents, including:
Wills, trusts, or estate-related documents
Real estate documents
Immigration or naturalization papers
I-9 forms
Depositions or sworn testimony
Public record documents (birth certificates, court records, transcripts)
Documents not written in English or requiring a translator
Library notaries cannot provide legal advice or explain documents
Notary service may be refused if ID is invalid, the signer appears confused or under duress, or the document raises legal or authenticity concerns
